Sharing The Magic Of New Mexico Running

ABOUT

NewMexico.Run is a web3 page at the intersection of running and all things New Mexico. The purpose is to provide you with the insider's perspective about what New Mexico is all about whether you’re a runner or just want to see how beautiful New Mexico is and what it’s all about.

There are three end goals. First is to put New Mexico on the map as a top tier, year-round running location. Second is to share awesome places within the state’s local communities so that runners can enjoy the amazing things The Land of Enchantment has to offer thus helping the local economy. Third is to promote access to wellness resources for underserved youth.

ABOUT ME

Roman

Hola y bienvenidos!! I’m a proud multi-generational New Mexican that was born in Las Vegas, raised in Pojoaque, and a graduate of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. I love running and catch a couple of thousand miles each year, some for marathon training and some for fun. I also love exploring all things and places in New Mexico.

I’ve had the pleasure of running and training on some of the prettiest trails and roads in New Mexico and the DC Metropolitan area. It always makes me realize how fortunate it is to have the privilege of being able to run and enjoy these wonderful places.

The 10 mile and half marathon are my favorite distances to race though I do have to say that I love the challenge of the marathon. I’ve been blessed to have trained for and raced super cool races alongside awesome friends and teammates from MCRRC. Marathons I’ve raced include Boston (x5), Richmond (sub-3), Chicago (sub-3), Erie (sub-3), Honolulu (BQ), New Jersey (BQ). Duke City is my favorite half and Army 10 & Cherry Blossom are my favorite 10 milers.

The idea for this NewMexico.Run was conceived in late 2020 while doing some trail running here in New Mexico after a near brush with death during the early part of the COVID pandemic. COVID is hands down the worst thing that has ever happened to me taking me from the top of my game to rock bottom. But it was also an opportunity to rebuild stronger and better and really focus on what’s most important for me at this time in my life. For me it’s being a great dad, making each day the best one possible, and helping make positive changes in the place I know best, mi querido Nuevo Mexico.

My happiest place to run are the beautiful trails of the Sandia Foothills in Albuquerque. The trails are truly spectacular and there is a healing energy up there that is hard to describe but definitely real. In fact this was the place that legit restored me back to 100% from COVID. I’ve run pretty much every trail there and they never cease to amaze me. No two runs are ever the same up there. Each time of day, every trail, and every season brings a different look to the landscape and skies. It is a serious dose of natural happiness that always leaves me energized and refreshed. Stated differently, the New Mexico runner’s high is pretty powerful!

I’m really excited to share what running in New Mexico looks like with the running community. I sure hope you enjoy the content and that it inspires you plan a New Mexico running adventure soon! Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
