New Mexico Coffee

I’m a coffee aficionado and good quality caffeine is my first order of business every morning! In fact, one of my very favorite things to do is to enjoy a fresh cup of coffee at one of the many wonderful establishments that can be found throughout the state. The quality and experience of enjoying a cup of good coffee can set the vibe for a really great day and I’m certain you’ll love what New Mexico local coffee shops have to offer.

Below is my regular rotation in Albuquerque and I’ll update each time I find a new and amazing places including other parts of New Mexico

Cutbow Coffee Albuquerque

Cutbow Coffee | Located on beautiful Rio Grande Boulevard near Old Town, the aroma of amazing coffee hits you the second that you walk into this super cool and cozy coffee shop. Before you walk in you’ll feel a total New Mexico vibe starting with the traditional exterior architecture, and the peeps enjoying conversation and coffee under the spacious portal (a large New Mexico porch). You might even get to see their classic Ford pickup truck parked out front. All the carefully curated coffee options are excellent as are the pastries - definitely indulge! Last but not least, Cutbow is located near a couple of convenient Bosque trail access points.

Michael Thomas Coffee | This coffee house has some of the best beans in America and prides itself with brewing excellent coffee in a friendly atmosphere filled with New Mexico vibes. Their cold brew process is done via a glass slow drip system that is fascinating to see in operation. Be sure to ask questions about all their unique processes because the staff is amazing to interact with and you’ll learn a ton. And if you like donuts, they partner with Rebel Donuts, a local donut shop that makes delish donuts. Michael Thomas has two locations filled both with excellent customer service.

Remedy Coffee | This place is such a hidden gem. Set in the heart of Old Town Albuquerque, its a must visit. Inside is a cozy, comfortable space complete with a fireplace and outside is one of the most charming southwest patios around. Take the time to enjoy your coffee on the patio because it will make your day so much better. Remedy serves Duran’s amazing breakfast burritos and other local goodies (get there early though because the burritos go quickly). If you miss out on a burrito, Duran’s Central Pharmacy is next door and their whole menu is straight up delish New Mexican. Pro-Tip: Visit Durans’s either way because their actual pharmacy is filled with all sorts of great New Mexico products that make great gifts for anyone on your list.

Zendo Coffee | This slightly off the beaten path coffee shop is always packed for good reason. It’s a super cool and community focused with great coffee, tea, and a very artsy vibe. Whether you’re meeting with friends, conducting business, or need to set up your laptop to crank out some work, Zendo is a perfect spot.

Pinon Coffee Albuquerque

New Mexico Piñon | The flavorful piñon nut is unique to New Mexico and all coffee here is infused with its goodness. Locals love this place for good reason - it’s the flavor we all grew up with. It’s one of the more established local coffee shops brands with multiple convenient locations throughout Albuquerque. The staff is always awesome plus each location has its own charm and they are conveniently located throughout the city. Pro tip…I recommend picking up a can or two of Piñon Nitro Cold Brew for early morning mountain trail adventures. As a huge nitro fan, Piñon’s is amazing!

Plata Coffee Sawmill

Plata Coffee | I always grab a cup when I’m at Sawmill Market before noon. A great selection of quality coffee sourced from various New Mexico coffee roasters, excellent staff, and the amazing Sawmill ambience combine to give you just what you need. If coffee is not your jam but you like excellent tea, Plata has you covered. The iced versions are always handy in the summer if you plan to walk around Old Town after a Sawmill excursion. Pro Tip - Pair your coffee with a scrum waffle from XO Waffle. Legit!

O’Beans Coffee | This one is the most hidden of all the coffee shops is Albuquerque but also one of the coolest with its VW themed coffee bar ambience. Great coffee, donuts sourced from Rebel Donut, a really dope vibe, and great customer service is the name of the game here. Added bonus is that it’s one of the closest shops to several of the Sandia Foothills trailheads making it a convenient place to enjoy coffee before or after your trail run!

Humble Coffee | When you need a good cup of local coffee, a great vibe, tasty pastry, and a spot to set up your computer or have a conversation, Humble has you covered. Their beans are sourced from local roasters as are the treats they serve. Pro-tip… Their donuts come from Bristol Donut and I recommend the prickly pear if it’s available (it’s a legit local prickly pear flavor compliments of New Mexico Prickly Pear). Humble Coffee has two locations filled both with excellent customer service.

Flying Star Albuquerque

Flying Star | This is an Albuquerque mainstay for good coffee, friendly service, and breakfast with several convenient locations. Each location has its own unique touches, most with great patio areas. They always have a great selection of tasty baked goods and there is a full menu with both American and New Mexican food if you are a bit hungrier. Pro-Tip - The Paseo location is conveniently located in proximity to the Sandia Mountain trails and the Rio Grande location is near a couple of Bosque Trail access points. Both locations are also next door to some amazing local businesses which means you can do so shopping to if you’d like!

Sunday Service Motor Company | If you’re in the mood for trying out a totally different type of local coffee experience, this is your spot! Sunday Service combines coffee, beer, wine, motorcycle repair, and good vibes into one location. All of their offerings are locally sourced from the coffee beans they use to the local beers on tap. Speaking of beer, Sunday Service also brews its own small batch beers and hosts regular happy hours. And if you are a DIY motorcycle rider, you can repair your bike too!

Trifecta Coffee Albuquerque

Trifecta Coffee | This off the main beat coffee shop is always buzzing because of their high quality coffee is great and really yummy fresh baked goods. The shop itself has some neat retro touches, and you always get service with a smile. Their outdoor patio is small but super chill and is perfect to relax and enjoy some caffeine. Pro-Tip… This is nice stop after a Bosque run!
